This separation agreement is completed by both parties in a divorce or legal separation action. It contains provisions for maintenance (financial support) of either party, disposition of property and the allocation of parental responsibilities (if there are children). It tells the court what has been agreed to and what is still unsettled. When approved by the court, this becomes the terms of the divorce settlement that must be followed by each party.
