Changing Your Name

If you’re changing your name due to marriage or divorce, you can use your marriage certificate or divorce decree to get your name changed at the department of motor vehicles and your bank. But if you simply don’t like your given name, you must get a court-ordered name change.

Changing a child’s name

You’re divorced and your child would like to share your maiden name, or perhaps you’re under 18 but just don’t like that sissy name your parents gave you. To change a child’s name, both parents must give consent and the court must approve the change.
